A unique contract opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to provide essential support to a student with complex needs in a home-based educational setting. This part-time position spans the full school year and focuses on delivering make-up services through twice-weekly sessions, each lasting 40 minutes. If you have availability and commitment, flexibility in scheduling will be considered to ensure the student’s needs are fully met.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid endorsement or certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Prior experience working with students who have complex needs is highly valued
- Strong understanding of spatial and positional travel concepts relevant to home environments
- Ability to adapt instructional strategies for individualized learning goals
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with students, families, and support teams
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implement and track progress on specific O&M goals, guiding the student to recognize and utilize concepts such as left/right, near/far, and in/out for navigating familiar spaces
- Plan instructional sessions tailored to the student's abilities, using positive reinforcement and supportive guidance
- Provide comprehensive documentation of student progress in accordance with educational and programmatic standards
- Collaborate with family members and related service providers to ensure a cohesive support system for the student
- Adhere to all relevant state and Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) standards
