An exciting contract opportunity awaits professionals passionate about supporting students with visual impairments. This role is tailored for a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS), or alternatively, you may combine your expertise if also certified in Vision Impairment. You’ll be working with a modest caseload of K-12 students, providing much-needed guidance and essential support that empowers them to navigate their educational journey with greater independence.
This contract is scheduled for the entire 2026-2027 academic year, starting August 3, 2026, through May 28, 2027. Choose a schedule that fits your life—each certification area offers up to 8 hours per month, or, if you hold both credentials, you can serve both needs in up to 16 hours combined.
Key Qualifications:
- Active certification in Orientation and Mobility, Vision Impairment, or both.
- Experience or strong interest in working with K-12 students with visual impairments.
- Knowledge of best practices for accessible instruction and individualized student support.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with educators, families, and staff.
- Commitment to fostering independence and safety for students within school and community settings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to students on your caseload, tailoring plans to meet individual needs.
- Consult with school teams to support classroom accessibility and safety.
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) related to visual impairment.
- Document student progress and participate in team meetings to ensure educational success.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for colleagues and families on vision and mobility matters.
