This part-time opportunity, located near Castle Rock, CO, offers an immediate start and a flexible schedule of 12 hours per week. As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, your skills will positively impact students’ independence and confidence as they navigate their educational environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS), with credentials valid in Colorado
- Background in working with children and adolescents in educational settings preferred
- Deep knowledge of assessment tools, travel techniques, and adaptive equipment for visually impaired students
- Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation abilities
- Ability to design and implement personalized instruction based on assessment results
- Passion for promoting the self-sufficiency and safety of students with visual impairments
Responsibilities:
- Conduct evaluations to determine student needs and goals regarding mobility and travel skills
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized orientation and mobility lesson plans
- Provide direct instruction to students in safe, efficient travel methods in various school and community settings
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to facilitate optimal access to the curriculum
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and required documentation
- Attend IEP meetings and contribute to the development of student plans as needed
