A part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist is needed to provide essential support to visually impaired students within a school setting in Colorado Springs, CO. This contract position offers approximately 12 hours per week for the 25/26 school year, with an immediate start date.
Key responsibilities include assessing students’ orientation and mobility needs, developing individualized instruction plans, and teaching skills that promote independence and confidence in navigating their environments safely. The specialist will work closely with students, families, and educational staff to ensure effective implementation of mobility techniques and use of assistive technology.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Proven experience in delivering orientation and mobility services to school-aged children
- Strong understanding of assistive technology and adaptive techniques related to vision impairment
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary educational teams
- Excellent communication skills and a student-centered approach to service delivery
