Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
• Experience developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
• Strong understanding of sensory development, spatial concepts, and safe travel techniques
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and educational staff
• Ability to assess student needs and document progress effectively

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with varying levels of visual impairment
• Develop personalized lesson plans to teach safe travel skills, including use of canes, navigation of indoor and outdoor environments, and public transportation training
• Collaborate with special education staff, teachers, and families to support each student's unique goals and ensure IEP compliance
• Provide training and resources to school staff to foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and participate in meetings as needed
