This full-time, onsite contract role offers an opportunity to utilize your expertise in working with children who are visually impaired, helping them navigate both the school environment and their wider community.

Responsibilities include performing assessments, designing individualized orientation and mobility plans, and delivering direct instruction to students. You’ll collaborate with teachers, caregivers, and other specialists to create supportive, accessible environments and foster student independence. Guiding students in safe travel techniques, teaching cane usage, and supporting their participation in school activities are central to this rewarding role.

Ideal candidates will bring:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience working in school settings or with K–12 students
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork
  • Ability to develop and implement effective orientation and mobility plans
  • Willingness to work onsite and adapt to various learning environments
  • Commitment to empowering students and advocating for their needs
  • Experience collaborating with educators, related service staff, and families

Key duties:

  • Assess students’ mobility needs and write individualized plans
  • Provide direct, onsite instruction in orientation and mobility skills
  • Teach students to use assistive devices such as canes
  • Maintain thorough documentation on progress
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to student goal setting
  • Assist with transition planning and community-based instruction
