Empower students to excel by providing essential support as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) with a focus on school-based services for learners with visual impairments. This contract role is situated near Converse, TX and offers direct engagement within a collaborative educational environment.

You will deliver both direct and indirect services, making a significant difference in your students' independence and confidence. Take on an engaging caseload that blends individual instruction, consultations, material preparation, and vital assessment duties.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Background as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired highly valued
  • Experience conducting Functional Vision Evaluations (FVE), Learning Media Assessments (LMA), and Orientation & Mobility assessments
  • Skilled in providing direct instructional hours and consultative support to staff
  • Familiarity with ARD (Admission, Review, and Dismissal) meeting participation
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Position Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instructional sessions to students with visual impairments
  • Conduct indirect services, including staff consultations and resource/material preparation
  • Perform thorough assessments (FVE, LMA, O&M) and maintain detailed documentation
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in ARD meetings to support individualized educational planning
  • Maintain clear communication with faculty, families, and district personnel
