A rewarding opportunity awaits a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support a student with complex needs in a home setting on a part-time, contract basis. This role centers on providing immediate make-up services and ongoing support for the full school year, focusing on essential skills that empower the student to confidently navigate their home environment.

Your expertise will directly impact a student's ability to use spatial and positional concepts—such as left/right, near/far, and in/out—while traveling familiar routes indoors. The position entails two 40-minute sessions each week, dedicated to helping the student locate specific features (like doorways or furniture) with greater independence and accuracy.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist endorsement
  • Experience working with children or students with complex needs, preferably in educational or home-based settings
  • Strong understanding of spatial, positional, and mobility concept instruction
  • Patience, flexibility, and a student-centered approach
  • Commitment to supporting Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and standards (including PA Standard 10.4.1.A1 and ECC: Orientation and Mobility)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured O&M sessions tailored to the student’s unique learning profile
  • Implement individualized activities aimed at strengthening navigation and orientation within the home
  • Track progress toward identifying and locating targeted environmental features in a consistent and encouraging manner
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and educational teams to reinforce mobility skills
  • Adapt strategies as needed to ensure accessibility, confidence, and ongoing skill development

This contract position offers the flexibility to balance your professional commitments while making a meaningful difference in a student's life. If you are passionate about empowering students to reach greater independence through skilled mobility training, apply today to make a lasting impact!
