Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Corpus Christi, Texas

Step into a vital role supporting student independence and mobility on the Southeast Texas Coast. As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist on a part-time contract basis, you’ll help address a critical need, providing essential services to students within a local school district. This assignment runs from August 3, 2026 through May 28, 2027, and will offer approximately 20 hours per week, with the opportunity to make a significant impact on students’ educational journeys.

Your expertise will ensure students with visual impairments learn the skills needed for safe, confident navigation in school and community settings. You’ll collaborate with a supportive district team and play a key part in meeting a pressing community need.

Desired Skills and Certifications:

• Current OMS (Orientation and Mobility Specialist) certification required
• AVCREP certification or an equivalent recognized credential
• Experience practicing as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in school settings
• Ability to manage a dynamic caseload of varying ages and needs
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
• Willingness and ability to meet Texas fingerprinting and credentialing requirements efficiently

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide orientation and mobility instruction to students to foster independent travel
• Collaborate with educators, families, and district staff to support IEP goals
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized instruction plans
• Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs and progress
• Keep accurate records and participate in student progress meetings
