Step into a vital role supporting students’ independence and confidence as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in the Southeast Texas Coast region. This part-time contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in an area experiencing a high demand for your expertise, working with a district committed to providing essential mobility instruction to students.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • AVCREP Certification or comparable credential
  • Experience with school-aged populations highly desirable
  • Ability to successfully complete Texas fingerprinting requirements for credentialing
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with educators, families, and district staff

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct orientation and mobility training to students with visual impairments, supporting their ability to safely and independently navigate school and community environments
  • Develop and tailor instructional programs according to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to continually assess and monitor student progress
  • Deliver consultation, resources, and support to teachers and families
  • Cover multiple campus locations as assigned throughout the contract (site details to be finalized)
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with state and district requirements

This contract begins August 3, 2026, and runs through May 28, 2027, with approximately 20 hours per week. The district recognizes the urgency of this need and values OMS professionals ready to tackle rewarding, impactful work.
