Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Dallas, Texas

This contract opportunity focuses on individualized services, working directly with one student who needs orientation and mobility strategies. This is an on-site position—virtual options are not available. The assignment runs from now through May 28, 2027, with a highly manageable schedule of two 30-minute sessions per week at one convenient location.

What You’ll Need:

• Current and active COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) licensure
• Experience supporting students in a school setting, preferably middle school aged (grades 6-8)
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Dedication to fostering independence and safe travel skills in students with visual impairments
• Professionalism and flexibility, especially given the low-hour, high-impact schedule

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct one-on-one orientation and mobility training for a single student at a middle school
• Develop and implement individualized instruction focused on safe, independent travel in school environments and beyond
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure consistency in strategies and support
• Track and document progress according to school and regulatory standards
• Attend scheduled meetings related to student planning and progress as needed
