Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Downingtown, Pennsylvania

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity serving students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in the Downingtown area. From February to June 2027, you’ll play a vital role ensuring independence and accessibility for approximately 25 students across several campuses, supporting learners from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 during a maternity leave coverage.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Orientation & Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification/licensure is required
• Experience working with students across a wide PK-12 age range
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with teachers, staff, and families
• Ability to travel to multiple educational settings within the district
• Passion for empowering students with visual impairments to navigate their learning environments safely and confidently

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assess student needs and develop individualized mobility plans
• Provide direct training in safe, effective travel techniques both indoors and outdoors
• Collaborate with educational teams on accessibility, accommodations, and best practices
• Maintain up-to-date documentation and progress records
• Serve as a resource for school personnel and families on orientation and mobility matters
• Adapt approaches as needed to address diverse student abilities and environments
