Make a meaningful impact supporting K-12 students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) in a contract role starting August 3, 2026, and extending through May 28, 2027. Whether you specialize in orientation and mobility, vision impairment, or both, your expertise will empower students with visual impairments to navigate their educational environment with confidence.

This flexible arrangement can accommodate either a dual O&M/VI practitioner or two separate professionals. Each position serves up to 8 hours per month—a combined role provides up to 16 hours monthly—ensuring work-life balance while making a difference. You will manage a small, focused caseload of 4-6 K-12 students who require guidance to develop their independence and safety skills.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid certification in Orientation and Mobility and/or Vision Impairment (as applicable for the position)
  • Experience working with K-12 students, preferably within school settings
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in individualized assessment and development of student-centered mobility plans
  • Commitment to fostering independence and skill development in students with visual impairments

Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students’ orientation and mobility needs
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized instruction and progress for each student
  • Train students in safe, effective travel techniques within school and community settings
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers
  • Document progress and provide written reports aligned with IEP requirements
  • Educate staff and peers about best practices in supporting visually impaired students
