- Holds national certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working with school-aged children or youth with visual impairments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to assess student needs and develop personalized instructional plans
- Knowledge of current best practices, tools, and techniques in orientation and mobility instruction
- Self-motivated and adaptable to a variety of educational settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments, fostering independence and safe travel within school and community environments
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to each student’s abilities and goals
- Collaborate with special education staff, classroom teachers, and families to ensure student progress and integration
- Assess students’ mobility, orientation skills, and recommend adaptive equipment or modifications as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation and participate in meetings regarding each student’s progress and support needs
