Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Glorieta, NM

Make a meaningful difference supporting students’ independence and mobility throughout the school year! A contract opportunity is available for a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to provide crucial services in a welcoming, collaborative educational environment. You’ll work onsite, full-time, as a valuable resource for students and educators from August through May.

Key Qualifications:

• Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification
• Experience working in K-12 educational settings preferred
• Strong assessment, reporting, and documentation skills
• Ability to develop and implement individualized mobility plans
• Excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with students, staff, and families
• Flexible, resourceful, and patient approach to student support

Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments
• Conduct assessments and develop individualized educational plan (IEP) goals in coordination with multidisciplinary teams
• Teach safe, effective travel techniques and reinforce independence for students in various school and community settings
• Communicate regularly with teachers, families, and other related service providers to monitor student progress
• Provide training to school staff on best practices for supporting students’ mobility needs
• Maintain accurate documentation according to school and district policies
• Adapt services for changing caseload needs throughout the contract

This is an onsite, contract position beginning in August and running through mid-May, offering a consistent work schedule of 37.5 hours per week. Caseload details will be shared upon assignment, ensuring you have the information you need to succeed.
