Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) or eligibility for certification
  • Previous experience working with school-aged children or adolescents, ideally in an educational setting
  • Strong understanding of O&M assessments, lesson planning, and documentation
  • Ability to develop individualized, student-centered goals that encourage growth and autonomy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with families, teachers, and administrators

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct O&M evaluations and develop tailored instructional plans for a 9th-grade student
  • Deliver one-on-one orientation and mobility training sessions, focusing on practical skills and safety
  • Maintain comprehensive progress notes and collaborate on IEP goals as needed
  • Consult with school staff and family to ensure continuity and maximize learning opportunities
  • Remain current on best practices and adapt instructional methods to student needs
  • Promote self-advocacy and support integration in school and community environments
  • Participate in efforts to assess and potentially expand services for other students
