Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Hubert, NC

What We're Looking For:

• Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification or eligibility for certification
• Experience working with K-12 students, preferably in a school-based or itinerant setting
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with students, teachers, and families
• Knowledge of current best practices and adaptive technologies in orientation and mobility training
• Flexibility and adaptability to travel between multiple schools within the district
• Commitment to supporting a diverse range of student needs and backgrounds

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
• Develop and implement individualized instruction plans to teach safe, effective navigation skills
• Collaborate with special education teams and provide training or resources to staff and families
• Advocate for accessible environments, and facilitate the use of assistive devices and technology
• Maintain thorough documentation and adhere to district and state regulations
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to multidisciplinary teams
