Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments in school environments preferred
  • Strong understanding of safe travel methods, environmental adaptations, and sensory development techniques
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and educational staff
  • Organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing a flexible caseload

Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs and develop appropriate instructional plans
  • Provide direct services, teaching safe travel strategies, use of mobility devices, and environmental awareness
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers, families, and other support personnel to optimize student outcomes
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute insights regarding student progress
  • Document services provided and progress made toward individualized goals, ensuring compliance with educational standards
