Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Irving, TX

A rewarding opportunity awaits for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist passionate about helping students build independence and confidence. This part-time, on-site contract position is designed for an experienced professional to provide direct services to a middle school student in a supportive educational environment. The selected specialist will work at a single location and collaborate closely with educational staff, serving one student for 30 minutes twice weekly.

Necessary qualifications:

• Current COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) licensure is required
• Prior experience working in a school setting as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist is highly preferred
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with students, families, and school staff
• Compassionate, detail-oriented, and dedicated to fostering developmental growth
• Ability to reliably travel to the assigned site within the Irving, TX area

Key responsibilities:

• Provide targeted Orientation and Mobility training for a middle school student on a consistent, scheduled basis
• Assess student needs, create personalized instructional plans, and track progress toward established goals
• Document session outcomes, maintain accurate records, and communicate regularly with teachers and family members
• Attend and contribute to relevant student meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) reviews, and school consultations as needed
• Adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines related to delivery of specialized services
