Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Lacey, WA

Bring your expertise as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to enrich student learning experiences in the Olympia area. This rewarding contract opportunity focuses on supporting students with visual impairments, helping them build navigation and orientation skills to achieve greater independence. The role is based in the Tumwater area and involves working two days per week, with assignments extending from ASAP through June 2027.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

• Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
• Experience working with students in schools strongly preferred
• Ability to assess and develop individualized plans based on student needs
• Strong communication skills with students, families, and educational teams
• Knowledge of current mobility aids and instructional techniques

Primary Responsibilities:

• Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized instruction to foster independent travel skills
• Collaborate with educators, administrators, and families to support inclusive educational goals
• Provide training and resources to staff regarding mobility strategies and accommodations
• Maintain accurate records and progress documentation
• Adapt instruction to accommodate diverse learning environments
