Qualifications and Experience:
- Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Valid New Mexico Public Education Department (NM PED) certification as a Mobility Trainer for the Blind
- Proven experience working with visually impaired students in school environments
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to support each student’s unique needs
- Ability to design and implement individualized mobility and orientation plans
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional mobility assessments and create tailored orientation and mobility plans
- Provide direct instruction to students on safe and effective mobility techniques in classroom, school, and community settings
- Collaborate with teachers, family members, and other educational support staff to integrate mobility goals into each student’s education plan
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, assessment outcomes, and service delivery
- Promote awareness and understanding of orientation and mobility services within the school community
- Stay current with best practices and advancements in orientation and mobility training
