Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Lamy, New Mexico

Key Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Experience working with children or young adults in schools
• Strong understanding of techniques for teaching safe travel and navigation
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to adapt instruction to diverse student abilities

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility programs for students with visual impairments
• Teach students to use canes, mobility devices, and other adaptive aids
• Work collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and families to support student goals
• Conduct assessments to determine student needs and monitor progress
• Provide direct instruction in both indoor and outdoor school environments
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress reports
