Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Lawrence, Massachusetts

Step into a pivotal role supporting students from kindergarten through 12th grade as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a welcoming school environment located near Lawrence, MA. The position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with a total of 32.5 hours per week, and runs from September 1, 2026, through June 14, 2027. What we’re looking for:

• Active and current Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) license
• Experience working with K-12 students of varying ages and abilities
• Strong understanding of best practices for teaching individuals with visual impairments
• Ability to conduct individualized assessments, develop lesson plans, and implement strategies that promote safe, effective mobility
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with faculty, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Capacity to adapt instruction to varying student needs in a school environment

Primary responsibilities:

• Deliver personalized orientation and mobility services across various grade levels
• Evaluate students’ functional vision and mobility skills, preparing comprehensive reports and recommendations
• Collaborate closely with educators, special education professionals, and parents to support each child’s success
• Participate in IEP meetings, contributing expertise in O&M goals and accommodations
• Monitor progress and adjust instructional approaches as needed to maximize student growth
• Maintain meticulous documentation in accordance with school and state guidelines
