Apply NowSeeking a motivated Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for an onsite, full-time contract role in a supportive school setting. This rewarding position runs from August 24th through May 28th and involves serving elementary, middle, and high school students across a vibrant district. Expect a varied workweek, Monday through Friday, as you travel throughout the district to provide essential services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired, focusing on developing crucial navigation and independence skills.
- Teach the effective use of mobility aids such as canes and guide dogs, safe city navigation, grocery shopping, reading Braille, financial literacy, and other daily living skills.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized plans to support each student’s unique needs.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, families, and other specialists to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain detailed documentation of services, progress, and ongoing needs for each student.
Preferred Qualifications:
- National-level certification (ACVREP/COMS) is required.
- Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational setting.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel within the district.
- Ability to adapt to varying caseloads and student needs.
