Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Lewisburg, Pennsylvania

An exciting contract opportunity is available for a passionate Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students for the remainder of the 25/26 school year. Key Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility required
• Current certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) with ACVREP
• Expertise in conducting comprehensive evaluations of orientation and mobility needs for visually impaired students
• Ability to develop and implement effective instructional plans based on individual assessments
• Strong consultative skills for collaborating with educators, staff, families, and the community
• Valid driver's license and readiness to travel between school sites as needed

Essential Responsibilities:

• Participate in the referral and assessment process for students with visual impairments
• Conduct evaluations covering concept development, environmental orientation, effective travel techniques, sensory development, personal safety, and the use of specialized devices
• Develop and carry out individualized instruction plans and set appropriate IEP/IFSP goals
• Order, maintain, and distribute canes and low-vision travel aids
• Provide direct instructional services and continuous progress monitoring
• Offer consultation and in-service training for staff and families
• Maintain accurate program documentation and reports on student progress
• Advise on creating and maintaining safe, accessible environments within the school
• Prepare detailed lesson plans and perform ongoing evaluations of student needs
