This contract opportunity starts in late August and runs through the end of May, providing a full-time Monday through Friday schedule—however, candidates seeking alternative arrangements are also encouraged to apply. The role is onsite, working across multiple school levels within the area, and includes travel to various campuses throughout the district.

Essential qualifications:

  • National certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (ACVREP/COMS)
  • Experience working with children or adolescents who are blind or visually impaired
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel between school sites as part of your daily responsibilities
  • Commitment to fostering independence, confidence, and safe navigation for students

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver orientation and mobility instruction to elementary, middle, and high school students
  • Assess students’ needs and develop individualized plans to help them achieve mobility goals
  • Teach critical life skills, such as using walking canes, navigating public spaces, accessing public transportation, shopping, and reading Braille
  • Collaborate with educational teams and families to ensure continuity of support
  • Maintain detailed documentation and provide updates on student progress
