Desired Experience and Qualifications:

• Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS), with current and valid credentials
• NM PED certification as a Mobility Trainer for the Blind (required)
• Prior experience in school settings or with youth preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families
• Ability to create individualized instructional plans tailored to each student’s needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs through thorough evaluations
• Develop and implement customized instructional strategies for safe travel and independence
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize each learner’s access to their educational environment
• Coach students in the use of mobility aids and teach concepts for safe crosswalk, indoor, and outdoor travel
• Document student progress and communicate updates with educational staff and families
