Qualifications & Experience:
- Active certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Valid Mobility Trainer for the Blind credential through NM PED
- Proven experience supporting students with visual impairments in educational or school-based settings
- Compassionate communication skills, with the ability to teach, adapt, and foster independence
- Familiarity with diverse assistive devices and mobility aids
- Highly organized, reliable, and self-motivated
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments and develop individualized instructional plans
- Teach safe travel techniques and promote independent navigation for students who are blind or visually impaired
- Work closely with educational teams, sharing strategies and progress updates
- Support the transition and generalization of skills from school to home and community environments
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all state requirements
