Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Malaga, New Mexico

Qualifications & Experience:

• Active certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Valid Mobility Trainer for the Blind credential through NM PED
• Proven experience supporting students with visual impairments in educational or school-based settings
• Compassionate communication skills, with the ability to teach, adapt, and foster independence
• Familiarity with diverse assistive devices and mobility aids
• Highly organized, reliable, and self-motivated

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct orientation and mobility assessments and develop individualized instructional plans
• Teach safe travel techniques and promote independent navigation for students who are blind or visually impaired
• Work closely with educational teams, sharing strategies and progress updates
• Support the transition and generalization of skills from school to home and community environments
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all state requirements
