Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
- Experience working with children or young adults with visual impairments
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities with students, families, and school staff
- Understanding of safety procedures and adaptive equipment for O&M training
- Ability to develop and implement individualized O&M plans
- Strong report writing and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs using established evaluation tools
- Design and deliver customized O&M instruction to help students travel safely and independently in various settings (indoor/outdoor, public transportation, school campuses)
- Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to ensure comprehensive support for each student
- Provide training and consultation to staff and families regarding best practices in O&M
- Prepare progress reports, document student outcomes, and participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Stay current on the latest developments in O&M strategies and assistive technology
