Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Manteca, CA

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
• Experience working with children or young adults with visual impairments
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities with students, families, and school staff
• Understanding of safety procedures and adaptive equipment for O&M training
• Ability to develop and implement individualized O&M plans
• Strong report writing and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

• Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs using established evaluation tools
• Design and deliver customized O&M instruction to help students travel safely and independently in various settings (indoor/outdoor, public transportation, school campuses)
• Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to ensure comprehensive support for each student
• Provide training and consultation to staff and families regarding best practices in O&M
• Prepare progress reports, document student outcomes, and participate in IEP meetings as needed
• Stay current on the latest developments in O&M strategies and assistive technology
