Step into a vital role supporting students with visual impairments across multiple school sites as a part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the upcoming academic year. In this impactful position, you'll deliver direct and consultative services to support Pre-K through high school students in achieving greater independence and safe navigation within school and community environments. With 2-3 in-person days each month, you will make a significant difference for students across all district campuses.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field
  • National certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) through ACVREP required
  • K-12 teaching certification
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, spanning early learners through high school
  • Strong communication skills for staff and family collaboration
  • Proficiency teaching daily living skills and mobility techniques for a range of ages and ability levels

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and consultative orientation and mobility services to meet each student’s unique needs
  • Assess orientation and mobility skills, develop personalized instructional plans, and monitor progress
  • Deliver training in daily living skills, pre-cane and cane techniques, and safe route and community travel
  • Collaborate closely with educational staff and families to help students fully access educational settings
  • Conduct staff training sessions and support safe, independent travel training district wide
  • Complete documentation in accordance with best practices and relevant guidelines
