Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Mars Hill, NC

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Experience providing O&M services in schools or with children and adolescents
• Excellent communication and record-keeping abilities
• Collaborative mindset to work alongside educators, support staff, and families
• Compassion and enthusiasm for empowering students with visual impairments

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students as directed by individual educational plans (IEPs)
• Develop and implement customized O&M instructional plans targeting student needs
• Teach students safe, efficient, and effective travel skills in school and community environments
• Consult and collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to support student progress and inclusion
• Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports
• Provide resources and strategies to school staff as needed
