The focus is on enhancing the student’s independence and spatial awareness within their familiar indoor environment. Your approach will help the student confidently navigate and locate key features in their home by applying spatial and positional concepts—including left/right, near/far, in/out, and next to. The primary objective is to strengthen their orientation and mobility skills to reach specific targets, aligning with both Pennsylvania and ECC standards.
Qualifications:
- Valid endorsement as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist
- Experience supporting students with complex or significant needs
- Familiarity with implementing individualized goals using spatial and positional concepts
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Compassionate, patient, and resourceful approach to individualized instruction
Responsibilities:
- Deliver two 40-minute sessions per week, focused on the student’s mobility and orientation goals
- Assess, plan, and implement strategies to help the student identify and safely navigate environmental features
- Document progress and adjust strategies based on student response
- Collaborate with parents or guardians as needed to ensure generalization of skills
- Maintain compliance with all required state and educational standards
