Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Mesquite, Texas

Key Qualifications:

• Active COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) licensure is required
• Prior experience in a school environment is preferred
• Ability to develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility instruction
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques for one middle school-aged student
• Collaborate closely with educational staff to design and update the student’s mobility goals
• Conduct assessments to inform planning and monitor progress
• Support independence and safe travel within the school’s environment
• Maintain accurate session notes and ongoing communication regarding student growth
• Ensure confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions

This role is part-time, averaging about one hour per week (30-minute sessions, twice weekly) at a single middle school site. The assignment is set to run through the end of the academic year, concluding May 28, 2027, providing reliable, steady hours over an extended period.
