What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential from ACVREP
  • Understanding of evaluations covering concept development, safe travel, sensory development, and low vision device use
  • Comfort with developing and implementing IEP/IFSP goals and instructional plans
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with school staff, families, and community partners
  • Ability to conduct in-service programs and consult on environmental modifications
  • Valid state driver’s license and flexibility to travel locally on short notice

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in referral and assessment processes for visually impaired students
  • Conduct detailed evaluations and develop individualized plans
  • Deliver direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques, including the use of canes and low vision devices
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress using criterion-based assessments
  • Consult and collaborate with staff and families on programming and student needs
  • Maintain program documentation and manage low-vision equipment
  • Provide input on safely designing school environments for students with visual impairments
  • Support professional development for school teams and families
