Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Muncy, PA

Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with visual impairments as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the remainder of the 25/26 school year. This contract position plays an essential role in shaping supportive, accessible learning environments and fostering student independence.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility
• Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) through ACVREP
• Experience conducting assessments and developing individualized O&M instructional plans
• Strong understanding of low vision aids, sensory development, and adaptive techniques
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
• Valid state driver’s license with flexibility to travel on short notice

Primary Responsibilities:

• Participate in referrals and comprehensive assessments for students with visual impairments
• Evaluate orientation and mobility needs, focusing on environmental orientation, concept development, safe travel, device usage, and advocacy skills
• Develop targeted IEP/IFSP goals and recommend specialized modifications as needed
• Design and implement individualized instructional plans based on each student’s unique needs
• Provide direct O&M instruction and consulting support to students, staff, and families
• Select, order, and maintain canes and low-vision travel devices
• Use ongoing assessment to monitor progress, providing regular updates to stakeholders
• Present in-service training and guidance for school teams and community members
• Advise on safe, barrier-free learning environments
• Maintain accurate service documentation, lesson plans, and progress records
