Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience working with children or young adults in educational settings
  • Knowledge of diverse instructional techniques and adaptive devices
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families
  • Ability to conduct assessments and document progress clearly and thoroughly
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude in dynamic school environments

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate students’ orientation and mobility abilities, developing individualized instructional plans
  • Teach safe and effective travel skills, including cane use, street crossing, and orientation strategies
  • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and parents to ensure holistic support of student needs
  • Provide training and guidance on the use of adaptive technology as appropriate
  • Advocate for accessibility and safety within the school and community environments
  • Maintain concise records of student progress and participate in IEP meetings when required
