Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working with children or young adults in educational settings
- Knowledge of diverse instructional techniques and adaptive devices
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families
- Ability to conduct assessments and document progress clearly and thoroughly
- Flexibility and a positive attitude in dynamic school environments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Evaluate students’ orientation and mobility abilities, developing individualized instructional plans
- Teach safe and effective travel skills, including cane use, street crossing, and orientation strategies
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and parents to ensure holistic support of student needs
- Provide training and guidance on the use of adaptive technology as appropriate
- Advocate for accessibility and safety within the school and community environments
- Maintain concise records of student progress and participate in IEP meetings when required
