Key Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) or eligibility for OMS certification
- Experience working with children and young adults who are visually impaired or blind
- Solid understanding of instructional strategies for orientation and mobility in educational settings
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Creative, flexible approach to problem-solving and adapting lessons
- Ability to manage caseload and documentation efficiently
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of student orientation and mobility needs
- Develop and implement individualized instructional plans
- Teach safe and effective travel skills in school, home, and community settings
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and family members to monitor student progress
- Provide consultation and training for educational staff on best practices
- Complete required reporting and maintain accurate records in a timely manner
