Apply NowStep into a rewarding contract opportunity as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, providing essential support to students in the Olympia area. This hands-on position allows you to empower students with vision impairments, helping them build confidence and independence as they navigate their school and community environments. The assignment is scheduled for two days per week and will run from ASAP through June 2027.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working in educational settings, especially with children or adolescents
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective interaction with educators, students, and families
- Ability to develop and implement individualized instruction based on each student’s unique needs
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with vision-related disabilities
- Design, implement, and monitor personalized mobility training plans that foster independence
- Collaborate with school staff, including special education teams, to create a supportive learning environment
- Provide direct instruction both inside and outside of the classroom—including navigating hallways, classrooms, and community settings
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of student progress and intervention strategies
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute meaningful input toward each student’s goals
- Offer guidance and training to school staff and families on mobility techniques and safety considerations
