Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Previous experience working in K-12 school settings preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of individual assessment and instructional strategies for students with visual impairments
- Able to design and implement customized orientation and mobility plans
- Current licensure or eligibility to practice in the state
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of students’ orientation and mobility needs
- Develop and communicate individualized instructional plans
- Provide direct instruction to students to improve independent travel and navigation skills
- Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers
- Monitor progress and adjust interventions based on ongoing evaluation
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with school and legal requirements
