Support visually impaired students in an engaging educational environment, providing essential orientation and mobility instruction across various grade levels. This role focuses on fostering independence, improving navigation skills, and empowering students by customizing lessons that reflect their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. Assignments will span multiple school sites, offering the opportunity to create a flexible schedule tailored to your needs and the needs of your students.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) with current AVCREP certification
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) teaching certificate
  • Experience or interest in working with visually impaired students from 2nd grade through high school
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
  • Ability to adapt instructional approaches based on diverse student needs and settings

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, on-site orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments
  • Assess students’ needs and design outcome-driven, individualized O&M lesson plans
  • Document progress and attend IEP meetings, collaborating with educators and service providers
  • Travel between different local schools to support students across multiple sites
  • Create a personalized weekly schedule to maximize student success while maintaining required service hours

This contract position runs from late July through May, offering a consistent 37.5-hour work week during the school year. The opportunity allows you to develop deep connections with students as you help them gain vital life skills in a supportive educational setting.
