Empower student independence and make a lasting impact as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist supporting school-aged learners along the Southeast Texas Coast on a part-time contract basis. This critical role addresses a significant need in the region, providing essential guidance for students with visual impairments to navigate school environments safely and confidently.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
  • AVCREP certification or equivalent recognized credential
  • Experience working with children and adolescents preferred
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with educators, families, and staff
  • Must meet Texas fingerprinting and credentialing requirements prior to starting
  • Compassion, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering student autonomy

Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans
  • Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction, both in-school and in-community
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mobility goals into IEPs
  • Support the development of orientation skills for a range of ages and ability levels
  • Guide staff and families in effective mobility strategies
  • Prepare documentation to track student progress and comply with district policies
  • Serve multiple schools within the district, with assigned campuses to be determined
  • Maintain compliance with all state and local education requirements

This contract position is part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) and will serve students throughout the 2026-2027 school year, beginning August 3, 2026, and concluding May 28, 2027. Additional details regarding caseload will be provided following an upcoming discussion with district leadership.
