Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Portland, Texas

Step into an impactful part-time role supporting students along the Southeast Texas Coast as a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This contract opportunity begins August 3, 2026, and extends through May 28, 2027, offering approximately 20 hours per week. You will play a vital part in helping meet a pronounced need, as qualified O&M Specialists are especially valued in the region.

Ideal candidates will possess:

• Active certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• AVCREP certification or an equivalent
• Thorough understanding of best practices for working in K-12 educational settings
• Demonstrated ability to support students with diverse needs and promote independence
• Experience with age-appropriate instruction, assessment, and mobility training
• Commitment to prompt completion of Texas fingerprinting and credentialing requirements

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing direct services and instruction in orientation and mobility skills for students with visual impairments
• Assessing student abilities and developing individualized goals and plans in collaboration with educational teams
• Consulting regularly with teachers, families, and other related service professionals to ensure student progress
• Traveling to assigned campuses to deliver individualized and group instruction (location details forthcoming)
• Upholding compliance with district procedures and all state licensure requirements
