Key Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) or eligibility to obtain
- Experience working in a school or educational setting is highly valued
- Strong understanding of O&M assessment, lesson planning, and student goal development
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and families
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and adaptive learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of 7 students, providing direct orientation and mobility instruction tailored to each individual's needs and goals
- Offer consultative services for 2 additional students, supporting their teams with strategies and interventions
- Conduct assessments to develop individualized educational plans for students
- Teach techniques such as cane skills, street crossings, public transportation usage, and environmental awareness
- Keep thorough and timely documentation of sessions, progress, and outcomes
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and family members to maximize student success and inclusion
- Remain current on best practices in orientation and mobility and share resources with school staff
