Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Republic, Missouri

Key Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) or eligibility to obtain
• Experience working in a school or educational setting is highly valued
• Strong understanding of O&M assessment, lesson planning, and student goal development
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and families
• Commitment to fostering a supportive and adaptive learning environment

Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of 7 students, providing direct orientation and mobility instruction tailored to each individual's needs and goals
• Offer consultative services for 2 additional students, supporting their teams with strategies and interventions
• Conduct assessments to develop individualized educational plans for students
• Teach techniques such as cane skills, street crossings, public transportation usage, and environmental awareness
• Keep thorough and timely documentation of sessions, progress, and outcomes
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and family members to maximize student success and inclusion
• Remain current on best practices in orientation and mobility and share resources with school staff
