An exciting full-time opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in a dynamic educational setting. This role involves working itinerantly across the district, providing essential services that enhance the independence and mobility of students with visual impairments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for K-12 students.
- Develop and implement individualized instruction plans to meet student needs.
- Collaborate with educators, families, and other professionals to support student success.
- Facilitate safe and effective travel techniques, including environmental and sensory awareness.
- Maintain accurate records and progress reports in compliance with educational standards.
- Provide training and support to staff and families regarding mobility strategies.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
- Demonstrated experience working with visually impaired students in educational settings.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload itinerantly throughout the district.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Open to out-of-state candidates with willingness to relocate or travel as required.
Location and Contract Details:
- Position based in Richlands, NC.
- Contract role with the new 2026-2027 school year opening.
