An exciting full-time opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in a dynamic educational setting. This role involves working itinerantly across the district, providing essential services that enhance the independence and mobility of students with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for K-12 students.
  • Develop and implement individualized instruction plans to meet student needs.
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and other professionals to support student success.
  • Facilitate safe and effective travel techniques, including environmental and sensory awareness.
  • Maintain accurate records and progress reports in compliance with educational standards.
  • Provide training and support to staff and families regarding mobility strategies.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Demonstrated experience working with visually impaired students in educational settings.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload itinerantly throughout the district.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Open to out-of-state candidates with willingness to relocate or travel as required.

Location and Contract Details:

  • Position based in Richlands, NC.
  • Contract role with the new 2026-2027 school year opening.
  • Itinerant services delivered within the district environment.
