A contract opportunity is available for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to provide services just two days per week, offering the flexibility to make an impact while maintaining work-life balance. This long-term assignment begins as soon as possible and extends through June 2027.
Key Qualifications:
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working in school settings or with children and adolescents preferred
- Strong collaborative skills to work with special education teams, teachers, and families
- Proficient in designing and implementing O&M programs tailored to individual student needs
- Knowledge of assessment practices, adaptive technology, and mobility tools for students with visual impairments
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to travel to sites as needed within the area
Role Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments and devise individualized instruction plans for students with visual impairments
- Collaborate with educators, related service providers, and families to support student goals
- Provide direct instruction in safe and independent travel skills, both indoors and outdoors
- Introduce and train students in the use of adaptive technology, mobility aids, and environmental cues
- Maintain thorough records of student progress and prepare detailed reports as required
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute thoughtful recommendations for student success
- Stay current on best practices in O&M and participate in ongoing professional development
