Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification or eligibility to obtain certification
- Experience working with children or youth with visual impairments, in school or educational programs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster teamwork with students, families, and professionals
- Ability to assess student needs, create individualized plans, and adapt methods to diverse learning styles
- Willingness to travel locally to serve students across multiple school sites if needed
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement individualized instruction in safe, effective travel techniques, use of canes, and orientation tools
- Teach familiarity with school, home, and community environments to promote functional independence
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to facilitate consistent support
- Document progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings to advocate for student needs
- Offer ongoing training and resources for school personnel on accessibility and mobility best practices
