Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) from an accredited program
- Prior experience working with school-aged children preferred
- Ability to perform thorough assessment and develop tailored instructional plans
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities for engaging families, teachers, and support staff
- Flexibility and creativity in providing both group and one-on-one instruction
- Commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess functional mobility needs of students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility training programs
- Teach students safe and effective travel techniques, including cane skills and environmental navigation
- Consult with IEP teams, participate in meetings, and document services provided
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to support learning in academic and community settings
- Offer recommendations for adaptive equipment and environmental modifications as needed
