Take the next step in your career as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist through a rewarding school-based contract role available for the 2026-2027 academic year. This position centers around supporting K-12 students with visual impairments, helping them gain independence and confidence in their mobility throughout the academic environment.

Starting August 3, 2026, and extending through May 28, 2027, you may choose to serve as either a combined O&M/VI specialist or fill one of two separate roles, each offering up to 8 hours per month—or 16 hours if combining positions. The caseload is manageable, comprised of approximately 4-6 students requiring specialized guidance and instruction in Orientation and Mobility skills across the school year.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active certification in Orientation & Mobility and/or Vision Impairment (O&M-ACVREP, NOMC, or relevant state certification)
  • Experience working with school-aged children in K-12 settings preferred
  • Ability to design and implement individualized instruction and assessment
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with school staff and families
  • Professional and compassionate approach to supporting students with varying needs

Role Duties:

  • Conduct orientation and mobility assessments and develop individualized instruction plans
  • Provide direct support and training for students to navigate school, classroom, and community environments
  • Collaborate with educators, support staff, and families to ensure student needs are met
  • Maintain accurate records and provide progress reports as required
  • Adapt instructional techniques based on student progress and feedback
