Qualifications and Experience:
- Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working in school settings, with preference for K-12 or adolescent populations
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with educators, support staff, and families
- Ability to assess student needs and create individualized learning and mobility plans
- Knowledge of adaptive mobility techniques and integration of assistive technology
- Commitment to fostering student independence and confidence
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine the student’s orientation and mobility needs
- Develop and implement personalized instruction for mobility and safe navigation
- Provide one-on-one instruction weekly, focusing on skill-building and confidence
- Collaborate with educational teams and family to monitor progress and adjust goals as needed
- Maintain documentation and communicate progress regularly to stakeholders
- Remain adaptable to possible expansion of service time as needs and opportunities arise
