Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience working in school settings, with preference for K-12 or adolescent populations
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with educators, support staff, and families
  • Ability to assess student needs and create individualized learning and mobility plans
  • Knowledge of adaptive mobility techniques and integration of assistive technology
  • Commitment to fostering student independence and confidence

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine the student’s orientation and mobility needs
  • Develop and implement personalized instruction for mobility and safe navigation
  • Provide one-on-one instruction weekly, focusing on skill-building and confidence
  • Collaborate with educational teams and family to monitor progress and adjust goals as needed
  • Maintain documentation and communicate progress regularly to stakeholders
  • Remain adaptable to possible expansion of service time as needs and opportunities arise
