Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | San Antonio, Texas

Step into an impactful contract role supporting students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) and Teacher of the Visually Impaired. This position is based near San Antonio, focusing on providing both direct and indirect services to facilitate access and independence for visually impaired students.

You’ll collaborate closely with educational teams, participate in important meetings, and be instrumental in student evaluations. This role also allows for flexibility in your instructional approach and a chance to make a tangible difference in young lives.

Key Qualifications:

• Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Experience or credentials as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired highly preferred
• Background providing direct O&M instruction to students in school settings
• Proficiency conducting Functional Vision Evaluations (FVE), Learning Media Assessments (LMA), and O&M assessments
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective staff and family consultation
• Organized, with comfort in managing preparation and documentation

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction to visually impaired students
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations (FVE, LMA, O&M assessments) to inform individualized plans
• Provide indirect services, including consultation and professional development for staff
• Participate actively in ARD meetings, contributing to student programming and planning
• Prepare materials and maintain clear documentation of services provided
