An experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is needed for a school-based position in San Francisco, CA, for the 25/26 school year. This contract role requires an in-person presence with a commitment of 20+ hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct orientation and mobility training to students with visual impairments
  • Develop individualized mobility plans and instruct students in safe and effective travel techniques
  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and support staff to integrate mobility skills into daily routines
  • Conduct assessments to monitor students’ progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate records and progress reports

Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS certification preferred)
  • Experience working with school-aged children in a mobility training role
  • Ability to deliver instruction in person
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of current mobility techniques and tools for visually impaired students

Location: San Francisco, California

This position offers the opportunity to work meaningfully within a school environment, supporting students’ independence and navigation abilities. The contract arrangement provides flexibility with a focus on 20+ hours per week during the academic year.
