Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing orientation and mobility plans for students with visual impairments
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with school staff and families
  • Ability to conduct functional mobility assessments and write reports tailored to a student’s unique needs
  • Experience working in educational settings preferred, with flexibility to adapt to evolving caseload assignments

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver individualized orientation and mobility instruction to ensure safe, independent travel
  • Assess students’ mobility needs and create targeted goals to be integrated with IEP teams
  • Partner closely with teachers, staff, and families to support students’ progress and share strategies for continued success
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, assessment findings, and instructional plans
  • Participate in school-based meetings and professional development activities
