Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Master's degree or higher in Orientation and Mobility, or a related field
- Active Orientation & Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
- Previous experience in a school-based setting preferred
- Strong understanding of mobility devices, low vision aids, and instructional strategies
- Ability to conduct thorough evaluations and develop individualized student plans
- Collaborative mindset—the role includes coordination with teachers, related service staff, and families
- Strong record-keeping, documentation, and progress monitoring skills
Core Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs within a variety of school and community settings
- Create, implement, and regularly update individualized orientation and mobility instructional plans
- Teach concepts, skills, and techniques for safe and independent travel
- Provide direct instruction and consultation as outlined in student IEPs or 504 plans
- Maintain accurate, compliant documentation and progress reports
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive student support
