O&M Specialist - San Jose, California

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Master's degree or higher in Orientation and Mobility, or a related field
• Active Orientation & Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
• Previous experience in a school-based setting preferred
• Strong understanding of mobility devices, low vision aids, and instructional strategies
• Ability to conduct thorough evaluations and develop individualized student plans
• Collaborative mindset—the role includes coordination with teachers, related service staff, and families
• Strong record-keeping, documentation, and progress monitoring skills

Core Responsibilities:

• Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs within a variety of school and community settings
• Create, implement, and regularly update individualized orientation and mobility instructional plans
• Teach concepts, skills, and techniques for safe and independent travel
• Provide direct instruction and consultation as outlined in student IEPs or 504 plans
• Maintain accurate, compliant documentation and progress reports
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive student support
