Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working in school settings or educational environments preferred
- Familiarity with assessing and addressing the needs of students with visual impairments
- Proficiency in developing mobility plans and delivering direct instruction in orientation skills
- Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
- Valid state licensure or eligibility to obtain certification in California
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine each student's orientation and mobility needs
- Develop individualized instructional plans based on assessment results and IEP goals
- Provide direct instruction in cane techniques, route planning, and independent travel skills
- Collaborate with educational teams, families, and related service providers to ensure comprehensive support for each student
- Monitor progress and adjust instruction as necessary to maximize student growth
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with school and district policies
