Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience working in school settings or educational environments preferred
  • Familiarity with assessing and addressing the needs of students with visual impairments
  • Proficiency in developing mobility plans and delivering direct instruction in orientation skills
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
  • Valid state licensure or eligibility to obtain certification in California

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine each student's orientation and mobility needs
  • Develop individualized instructional plans based on assessment results and IEP goals
  • Provide direct instruction in cane techniques, route planning, and independent travel skills
  • Collaborate with educational teams, families, and related service providers to ensure comprehensive support for each student
  • Monitor progress and adjust instruction as necessary to maximize student growth
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with school and district policies
