Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Previous experience supporting students with visual impairments in a school environment
- Knowledge of assessment and instructional strategies for mobility training
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with teachers, families, and other related service providers
- Ability to develop individualized mobility programs tailored to each student's needs
- Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic educational environments
Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct mobility assessments and develop individualized training plans
- Instruct students in safe and effective travel techniques within various settings (school, community, etc.)
- Consult with teachers, specialists, and families to facilitate accessibility and inclusion
- Document student progress, prepare reports, and participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Offer ongoing support, resources, and training to staff and families
- Maintain compliance with state and federal educational guidelines
