Key Qualifications:
- Certified as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Previous experience working in school settings or with children preferred
- Comprehensive understanding of best practices for mobility and orientation training
- Strong communication abilities to collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff
- Capacity for developing and implementing individualized instruction plans
- Flexibility, patience, and a positive attitude in supporting students with varying needs
Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ mobility strengths and needs
- Develop and deliver tailored orientation and mobility instruction, fostering safe travel skills in both school and community environments
- Teach students to effectively utilize mobility devices, such as canes, and reinforce the use of remaining senses
- Coordinate with educators and related service providers to promote integration of mobility skills within the educational curriculum
- Maintain clear documentation of student progress and communicate updates with families and IEP teams
- Adapt lesson plans based on student progress, feedback, and relevant technological advances
